Why participate in a clinical trial? You may wish to participate in a clinical trial for one or more reasons:
- To help researchers make discoveries that may help you or others
- To learn more about your condition
- To try an investigational medication if a condition you have is not responding to conventional treatment
- To receive a physical examination and laboratory testing at no cost
- To reduce the burden of participating in a trial you will be compensated for your travel and time.
Safeguards for our research participants If you choose to participate in a study, we will ensure that you understand everything that will happen during the trial. We will explain the benefits and risks of the study, outline what you can expect during the course of your participation, and will explain alternative treatments that are available if you do not wish to participate.
What are the trial sites like? In our Newton facility, we offer a comfortable, home-like setting for everyone who participates in our trials. Our center is conveniently located and is easy to find. There is ample free parking immediately adjacent to our first floor suite. Our facility includes six private bedrooms furnished with desks, chairs, queen or electric adjustable beds, and satellite TV and VCRs with remote controls for those who are participating in a trial in which you need to sleep at our research center. Our facility also includes handicapped-accessible bathrooms with showers within the suite. We have a kitchen with a refrigerator and microwave oven that you can use to prepare your food when the study requires that you be at the facility during mealtimes.
Our Brookline facility is easily accessible by public transportation. At this facility we are conducting outpatient trials.
Areas of our clinical expertise and interest We are studying medications to treat neurological, psychiatric and sleep disorders. Even if you do not have a disorder for which we are currently evaluating treatment, you may register in our database as a volunteer for a future trial in the areas listed below. All data we collect from you is maintained in strictest confidence in compliance with federal guidelines.

What to expect if you participate After you contact us, we will take a confidential health history from you by telephone. If you appear to qualify based on the criteria of the trial, we will ask you to visit our facility so we can explain the study in detail, including the possible benefits and risks and answer all of your questions.
If you decide to participate, we will ask you to sign an informed consent form, signifying that you understand the purpose, risks and benefits of the trial, and that you are allowing us to enroll you as a subject.
To determine if you are eligible for the full study, you will have a physical and medical examination and laboratory tests, which are provided free of charge. Once you are enrolled into a trial, you will be scheduled for a series of visits back to our facility.
We encourage you to ask questions and to seek advice from your primary care physician. Participation in a clinical trial is voluntary and you may withdraw at any time.
Our facilities are comfortably furnished, easy to reach, and offer plenty of free parking.
